EC grants EUR 1.5 million workers in the retail sector Aragon.

Brussels, October 29 .- The European Commission (EC) approved today an application for assistance amounting to EUR 1,560,000 1,154 retail workers who were dismissed in Aragon to find new jobs, announced today in a statement.

The European Union will help 1,154 Spanish workers belonging to 593 small and medium enterprises across the retail sector of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund, ff14 gil, (EGF).

"We must use all tools at our disposal to limit the consequences of the crisis on people and their livelihoods," said European Employment and Social Affairs, Laszlo Andor.

In addition, Andor has clarified that "hope" that the EGF can help these workers find new jobs.

The volume of retail sales declined for seven consecutive quarters from its peak in, buying eve isk, the first quarter of 2008, but in Spain, the decline was more pronounced than the EU average.

The EGF supporting 1,154 former employees of the distribution sector through a professional orientation device which provides, inter alia, advice and assistance to the intensive job search, training and retraining measures.

The total cost of this device, ffxiv gil, is expected to help turn around 2.4 million euros, of which EUR 1,560,000 will be financed by the EU through the EGF.

The EC today also approved two further applications for unemployment assistance worth 3.5 million euros for more than 600 dismissed in Alicante in the textile and construction find new employment.
